  Vancouver: Most Livable City!

Once again, Vancouver has been ranked the ďmost livable cityĒ in the world. Vancouver has been ranked the best place to live in the world for the fifth year in a row in a survey by the Economist magazine, while Toronto took fifth place out of 132 cities.

Vancouver scored a livability index of 1.3 per cent. The two Canadian cities rank among the top five because they have low crime rates, little threat from instability or terrorism, and a highly developed transport and communications infrastructure, according to the survey conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). EIU graded 132 cities on 40 different indicators which are weighted across five categories: stability, health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.  The EIUís Livability Ranking is part of their Worldwide Cost of Living Survey. The survey uses a mixture of quantitative and qualitative data, which are combined to give an overall Quality of Life Index rating. Each of the 40 indicators is given a rating between one and five, where one means there is no impact and five means the factor is extremely challenging. Indicators are then weighted to produce an index, where 0 per cent means the city is exceptional and 100 per cent means it is intolerable.

There is no doubt that Vancouver is a very desirable city to live in. Vancouverís economy is going strong and the unemployment rate is at a record low.  Although housing prices are at a high, Vancouverís real estate prices are competitively low compared to other cities in the world i.e. London, New York.  When you consider the number of green spaces, air quality as well as cost of living, Vancouver is great city to buy a new home in.
